A nomadic exhibition on contemporary Spanish stage design

The exhibition Tránsito por la escenografía española contemporánea (‘Transit through contemporary Spanish stage design’) is a nomadic exhibition that brings together a wide selection of Spanish theater stage design proposals, grouped into eight sections, showcasing almost six hundred theater plays.

We designed an exhibition display that functions as an open “scenic box”, divided into nine modules. Each module functions as an independent unit that can be freely distributed in space. Each of them has an integrated video and surround sound setup to project images of a selection of the most representative stage works of the last five years. When folded, they form a closed “scenic box”, facilitating its transportation.

One of the pillars of our design processes is “second lives”, a recycling policy in which the life cycle of materials is integrated into the design process. The scenography is designed so that its elements can have a second life. The pieces that shape the exhibition will be transformed into new objects, such as tables, chairs or other scenographies.

The exhibition was initially presented at the Prague Quadrennial (PQ 2015), the world’s most important event dedicated to scenography and theatrical architecture, as part of the Spanish programme. Subsequently, it has been travelling around different Spanish territories, such as Almagro, Ribadavia, Olot or Gijón.
